50 Dates in 50 States Travel

Travel Guide: Houston, Texas

My 50 Dates in 50 States journey consist of going on dates, but it also about adventures & traveling. I’ve shared my Texas journey, now here is a round up of everything I did so you can try them out yourself. If you haven’t read about my Texas trip/date click here.

What to Do?

AirBnb Experience

I don’t usually take pictures when I travel, especially when I travel alone. Most of the pictures I have taken are taken by strangers. To make sure I got some good pictures I actually booked a photo shoot with Lester. It was an experience I found on Airbnb. At first, it was supposed to with 4 other people, I got lucky I got a one on one for 1/4 of the price. The photo shoot was actually really fun. Lester really tried to get to know me. We talked about our upbringing and what we enjoy. I don’t know if he’s single, but wished I could have gone on a date with him. If you visit Houston, he knows some great spots so definitely try and book a photo shoot with him.

Even if you’re not into a photo shoot experience, I definitely recommend to try out an AirBnb experience at least once.

Galveston

When I told my Lyft driver Paula, about my blog I had no idea where to go for a date. She was super nice and had awesome suggestions. They were all in Galveston, about a 1.5 drive outside of Houston. These places are on the Gulf of Mexico so you’ll have a nice view, great seafood options, and fun activities.

Art Car Museum

If you are an art, car, or museum enthusiast I definitely recommend you take a look at the Art Car Museum. This museum is free which is the main reason why I chose to go, but it’s also pretty amazing. Inside were 3 extremely creative cars that won prizes at the Annual Houston Car Parade. In addition to the cars, 100 artists can submit their artwork to the museum. Every year the museum announces a new theme, and this year the theme was animals. The submission process is free and basically first come first serve. So if you’re an artist it’s a great way to get your artwork out there.

Where to Eat?

El Big Bad

When I asked on my IG story for recommendations, El Big Bad was suggested for their great margaritas. I have to agree their margaritas are pretty good and strong! The tacos were good as well. They had a good lunch menu deal, but I kind of pigged out and tried a little bit of everything. The only downside is they don’t give you chips and dip for free 🙁 I know a lot of other restaurants do this too, but c’mon free food is the best!

Sweet Paris

I heard of Sweet Paris on this app called Skorch. It’s like Yelp, but you can actually see how popular a restaurant/cafe is in real time with heat maps. I recommend the app, but it’s only available in certain cities.

Anyways, I really wanted to go to Sweet Paris, because they have a really great mission: For each crĂȘpe sold with the food bank logo, Sweet Paris will donate one meal to children in need.‘ As I’m writing this I just realized I didn’t order one of those crepes (oops!), but hopefully, you can when you visit. I personally ordered the Nutella Hot Chocolate, The Feast Crepe, and a kids PB&J crepe (Don’t judge I was hungry lol)

Tiger’s Den

Tiger’s Den is the ramen restaurant I went to for my Texas date. This restauraunt was located in Houston’s Chinatown. I don’t eat red meat or pork so I had the vegetable ramen with chicken skewers. For appetizers, I wanted to try something new, so we shared ‘Octopus Balls’. I posted it on my Instagram Story and it was moving when it came out. Apparently, this is completely normal but you can check out the video on my IG.

Just Mac

I did go to this restaurant, but my date DeShaun thought if I came back to Houston I should try it out. Just Mac is a macaroni and cheese restaurant. I LOVE mac and cheese so if you do too, definitely try it out. If you try it out before me let me know what you think!
