5 Habits to Better Yourself While Single

Being single is a blessing because it really gives you a chance to focus on you. I personally always try to better myself. It makes me feel great about myself, but at the same time I know I’ll have something positive to bring to a relationship when that happens. Here are 5 healthy habits you should work on to be your best self.

Your Routines

Ever since I graduated from college and stopped playing volleyball, it’s been hard to figure out my new workout routine. I first started off with kickboxing but then got bored. Then I got an LA fitness membership. I would go to some classes but if my week went awry I wouldn’t have a class I could go to. I also tried the Nike Training Club app but I also got bored with that as well. I found my solution by joining ClassPass. If I do get bored I can try a different gym. Right now my new gym obsession is [solidcore]. Figure out what workout routine works best for you. You want to be in the best shape you can for your health but also so you can attract some guys. These are different ways you can implement a workout into your current lifestyle

Morning & Nightly Routines

Having a routine helps you have some order in your life. It’s also great for you health-wise. I’ll be honest I’m still figuring out my daily routines. I have a face wash routine I try to do every day. Or a simple routine is I drink green tea (much better than coffee) every morning. I use this app called Lazy Bones to keep track.

meal prep

Cook & Meal Prep

I went from my mom cooking for me to getting food served to me in college. I never really had the need to cook food. Guys would always ask me if I could cook when I would go on dates and I would always joke and say I know how to follow directions. I’ve always been jealous of people that are great in the kitchen. I knew how to cook the basics like pasta and scrambled eggs but I know I want to be savvier.

I also wanted to start eating healthier and save money on eating out, so I started doing meal prep. Nothing fancy but I cook veggies and chicken and pack it all up in my glass containers. Sometimes I even do mason jar salads. I won’t say I’m a master in the kitchen but I do feel more confident if I had to cook for a guy I like.

I think another good idea is to try the meal services they have.  It’s a fun experience cooking a new meal without having to worry about going shopping for the ingredients. I tried it for a couple of weeks but it was a little too expensive. As an alternative, I just use Instacart and get my groceries delivered on the weekend and pack all my lunches and snacks before Monday

finances

Manage Your Finances

When I graduated college I got a job located right across the street from a mall. Every time I would get a paycheck I would drive to the mall and go shopping. I knew I couldn’t keep up with this habit especially if I wanted to do 50 Dates in 50 States. To make saving easy for me I downloaded a few apps.

Qaptial & Albert automatically pull money out of your account and save it. Mint helps put your budget together and Truebill helps you keep track of your bills and also claims to lower them. If you have loans you may also want to find an app to help you pay off your debt. You want to learn how to manage your money and pay off your debt especially going into a serious relationship so work on it while you are single.

Apps that can help with your finances include:

Find Hobbies

A common question people ask on dates is what are your hobbies or what do you like to do. For a while all I could answer was I play volleyball. That wasn’t a bad answer but I felt like I had nothing else to say about my life. I started trying new things by myself to find my hobbies.

I soon realized I really enjoyed doing creative art. I’ve also started this blog & traveling as a fun hobby. Other ways to find hobbies it to join a meetup with your interest or even finding a fun workout can be a hobby as well.

Apps that can help find hobbies as a young adult are:

  • Meetup (meet people with similar interests)
  • Groupon (deals for fun activities)

Right now working on this blog is a hobby that takes up most of my time. I also joined Toastmasters to better my public speaking and networking skills. It’s healthy to find something you would like to do without a significant other. Just find something that enhances your life or makes you happy.

Get Therapy

Therapy is so important! Everyone has their issues and it’s always good to talk to someone that can give you professional and help you talk through things that a friend probably can’t.

The last semester of my senior year in college, I would go to a counselor. It was free and I had to take advantage of it before I entered the real world. I did this by choice because I knew this kind of experience gave me insight into why I do the things I do and validated my thinking and actions.

It could help you distance yourself from toxic relationships or even provide reasoning on why you self-sabotage relationships. I’m in a good place in my life but I’m definitely working on going back the therapy.

These are 5 habits that I am constantly working on. There are weeks when my routine is out of whack, but I think I’ve figured out what works best for me. I’m very independent and want to live the healthiest lifestyle. If you’re single figure out the5
