3 Reasons You Should Take a Roadtrip by Yourself

Colorado – Part 2 of 3

Read Part 1

I woke up around 7 am on my second day in Colorado. I called my Dad and replied to the sweet message Ralph sent last night. Although my plans were changed with Robert I still wanted to visit a Hot Springs in Colorado.  Even if I didn’t have a date, I was going to take a solo road trip to make sure I had my Hot Springs experience.

I googled Hot Springs in Colorado and checked Maps to see the closest one to my Airbnb. Around 8:45 I decided to go to Glenwood Hot Springs. It was a 2.5 drive, so I decided to finally get out of my bed. In had to get ready in 15 minutes. I brushed my teeth; washed my face; put on my swimsuit and threw on some clothes so I didn’t freeze my butt off when I stepped outside.

You Just Worry About Yourself

If you go on a road trip by yourself you don’t have to worry about other people. You can get on the road when you’re ready and don’t have to wait for anybody. You also don’t have to take a restroom break for the people with small bladders. Unfortunately, I was in a rush for this road trip. I had to make it back to Denver for a date around 3 o’ clock so I was on a time crunch.

Just You and the Road

If you’ve never been to Colorado it’s beautiful there. The snow-covered mountains and trees were so serene as I drove to the hot springs. Even if I didn’t enjoy the Glenwood pool I knew that I would at least appreciate the scenic route I had to take.

I finally made it to the hot springs around 12 pm. I calculated that if I could spend an hour at the hot springs and at least make it back in time to meet up for my date. I paid $17.50 to enter the lockers and pool area. I was excited to finally have made it I stripped down to my swimsuit. I walked through the doors to the cold outside and hurried to the 90-degree hot springs pool. The hot springs were set up like a regular pool area. Kids were playing with there pool toys and the adults hung out by the edge.

Opportunity to Talk to New People

Usually, when you go to the pool you have a friend to keep you company, but this was not the case. I slid into the hot sulfur smelling pool and said a few words to these two girls in the pool. I was hoping I could ask for them to take a picture of me since I came alone. I watched families and couples enjoying the pool as I walked to the deep end breathing the cold air. I knew I had to leave soon so I decided to try out the 104-degree pool. As soon as stepped in it felt amazing, I wish I could’ve stayed in there for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately, I had a date and the pool was so hot, 10 minutes was the longest we were allowed to stay in. I hurried and asked one of the girls to take a few pictures of me and stepped out of the pool. While I walked to my car I checked maps to see how long it would take me to get back to Denver. I had to make sure I avoided any tolls so I didn’t get charged $18 on my rental car. Maps said it would take me 3h hours to get back. I knew I was not going to make it back in time for my date.

I felt bad the date was running a little late, but I had to make sure I was getting what I wanted out of my trip. Yes, my journey is called 50 Dates in 50 States, but it’s not about the dates for me. It’s about the adventures I plan to have as well. like anything in life you shouldn’t rely on someone to enjoy it. I wanted to go to the hot springs in Colorado so I made sure that happened by taking a road trip by myself.

If you can’t wait to go on an adventure don’t wait for someone to join you. Take a road trip by yourself and enjoy the ride.
