5 Ideas for a Worthwhile Weekend Trip

I work a full time job so going on 50 Dates in 50 States is only manageable if I take weekend trips. Some may think it’s hard to have a worthwhile weekend trip, but it’s very feasible. Check out these 5 ideas to figure what you can do on your next weekend trip!

Learn Something

A museum or tour is a great way to learn something new on your trip. but I always feel like I had a productive day if I have learned something new. You can find some museums that are completely free so that’s something you should add to your itinerary if you’re not trying to spend a lot of money.

I’m not a big history buff, but I have enjoyed some tours. There many different kinds of history: music history, food history, political history, cultural history. Find out what you’re most interested in learning about. If you really love animals go ahead an learn about them at a zoo or museum. I like whiskey so my favorite tour was a whiskey tour with my friend in Tennessee. We got to drink during the history lesson of the place and learned how whiskey is made. We even got to try some whiskeys at the end of the tour.

Try New Foods & Drinks

I always like to try new foods when I visit a new place. When I went to New Orleans, I tried beignets & crawfish for the first time. If a state is famous for a certain type of food you should try it just to say you did. You should also have to try a new restaurant or bar. Make sure you check their Yelp ratings. If Skorch is available in your state it’s another good app to find popular spots.

Fun Activity

I love doing fun activities whether it’s wine tasting or going on an adventure. I usually get some ideas on Groupon, Airbnb Experiences, or Viator. Find something you’ve always wanted to do or something that scares you. You’ll definitely have a great story to share when you get back home!

Somewhere Quirky

I’m a little quirky myself, so I like to check out unusual attractions. Every good trip needs a cool story. Going to The Museum of Sex or seeing World’s Largest Ball of Stamps is interesting enough to tell your friends back home. Atlas Obscura has a great site that has cool and unusual things you can do in each state.

Relax

Some people like to stick to an itinerary and want to get a lot done on during a visit. When you travel somewhere don’t stress yourself out if you don’t get everything done. If it’s a short weekend trip try and do 2-3 things on this list and relax. This will guarqntee you a worthwhile weekend trip.

  1. All of these suggestions make sense – I enjoy learning new things even though I have never been a big fan of museums but bring on the food, drinks, new eateries, and relaxation and I am game.

Hubby and I like to do quirky too….We were thinking of going ax throwing, we saw it being advertised and figured why not. We are going indoor rock climbing next weekend. Hubby watched “Free Solo” last week and now he wants to rock climb. LOL

Another good article with great suggestions.

    1. Ooh yes! I want to try ax throwing too. And rock climbing is definitely a fun date. How did you guys enjoy it?

Sorry for the late response, but always love your feedback 🙂
